Tate Modern Announces Two Yayoi Kusama 'Infinity Rooms' to Open This Year

Celebrating the iconic gallery’s 20th anniversary.

London’s Tate Modern has announced a string of new exhibitions and performances to celebrate 20 years since its opening. Arguably the stand-out show from the calendar is a year-long exhibition focusing on the work of Yayoi Kusama and two of her famous Infinity Room.

The two Infinity Rooms to be displayed are Infinity Mirrored Room — Filled With the Brilliance of Life, which is one of the artist’s largest ever installations and was originally created for her 2012 retrospective at Tate Modern, and Chandelier of Grief, an artwork designed to appear as an endless universe of rotating crystal chandeliers. Alongside the two Infinity Rooms, the exhibit will also include photography and footage from Kusama’s studio and early works.

Tate Modern will also unveil a series of 20 new pairings of images, showing links between artists from different places and eras. The new pairings will include Louise Bourgeois‘ Maman sculpture, which was the first work seen by visitors when they arrived at Tate Modern’s opening back in 2000.

Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Rooms will open in May 2020 and run for a year, kicking off the 20th anniversary celebrations.
