Dreamhaus LA Explores Hidden Truths in "Belly of the Beast" Exhibition
New paintings and sculptural works by emerging West Coast artists.
Running concurrently with Frieze LA is a dynamic group exhibition helmed by Mike Reesé of the emerging artist collective and creative studio Dreamhaus LA. Titled “Belly of The Beast,” the forthcoming presentation will feature select new paintings and sculptural works from fellow West Coast multi-media artists Al-Baseer Holly, Cristina Martinez, and Nikkolas Mohammed.
One of the highlights of the show is Mohammed’s mixed-media work entitled Murder Mamis. The figurative piece features an intricate composition made using found objects, textiles, and oil on canvas. A hand-painted vest is also meticulously positioned in its own silhouette cut-out, creating a modular effect that offers viewers two modes of observation.
“The works selected are threaded together by their presence of ‘hidden truths’ that resonate beyond their resolved surfaces and aesthetic qualities,” said Dreamhaus LA to HYPEBEAST. “There is a clear dismissal of socio-political narrative within the curation to place the viewer in the vortex of the moment to affect an absence of thought and inherent connectivity of souls.”
