Sofia Crespo To Transform Gaudí’s Casa Batlló With AI-Powered Audiovisuals

Taking place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site this weekend.

Later this week, Casa Batlló will unveil Sofia Crespo’s Structures of Being — an AI-powered audiovisual show that will transform the façades of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Located in the heart of Barcelona, the Casa Batlló is widely considered one of Antoni Gaudí’s architectural masterpieces. Crespo will be the second-ever artist to reimagine the iconic house — with the first being Refik Anadol who unveiled his Living Architecture event back on the site back in 2023.

For Structures of Being, Crespo will be reinterpreting the building’s exteriors with AI. The AI had been trained with Gaudí’s works as well as the library of natural forms that the architect often incorporates in his designs. According to the official press release, the resulting visuals will be a “contemplative exploration of biodiversity and an immersive journey through the materials, beings, and natural phenomena which propelled Gaudí’s creativity.”

Speaking on this project, Crespo said “The great challenge has been to convey Gaudí’s inspirations on a façade that has a lot of personality and intricate details. I wanted to capture how he worked and thought, including materials, symbology, and his more spiritual dimension.”

Sofia Crespo’s Structures of Being will take place over the weekend from January 27-28. The show with commence in the evenings, where it will run every 30 minutes until its last session at 10:30 p.m. For more information, visit Casa Batlló’s special events page here.
