Perrotin Announces New Los Angeles Gallery

The forthcoming space will open during Frieze 2024 and feature a solo show by Izumi Kato.

French gallerist Emmanuel Perrotin will open a new space in the heart of Los Angeles during the forthcoming Frieze art fair next month. Located in Mid-City and housed in a historic 1930s building, Perrotin LA will boast a total of 10,000 square feet between the main gallery and the adjacent office, which was reconverted from an old comedy club.

The latest space joins its flagships in Paris and New York, as well as locations in Dubai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo. “Los Angeles offers an extremely interesting and diverse cultural scene, with a unique network of artists, museums, collectors and art lovers,” noted the gallery’s founder in a statement. “Here, art is central to the city’s identity, and it is present across various industries. I am happy to settle on the West Coast with a very talented and experienced team in order to develop more projects by our artists and expand our reach in the United States.”

To inaugurate Perrotin LA, the gallery will feature a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Izumi Kato — his first on the West Coast. Based between Tokyo and Hong Kong, Kato is known for creating paintings and sculptures made of various materials, such as wood, stone, and cast aluminum — as a meditation on his home nation’s spiritual ties. Frieze LA 2024 will run from February 29 to March 3, 2024 at the Santa Monica Airport.
