Studio Ghibli's 'The Boy and the Heron' Art and Illustration Books Include Hundreds of Hayao Miyazaki's Hand-Drawn Storyboards
Miyazaki’s latest film hits US theaters this December.

Studio Ghibli has unveiled a series of art and illustration books surrounding Hayao Miyazaki‘s latest film, The Boy and the Heron.
First up is the Studio Ghibli Complete Annotated Storyboard Collection: The Boy and the Heron title, which features hundreds of Miyazaki’s hand-drawn storyboards (he drew 603 pages in total) and arrives in an A5-size case. Accompanying the storyboard title is the 336-page The Art of book that includes character design sheets, work-in-progress background illustrations and other artwork from the film’s pre-production. There’s the two-volume Film Comic that retells the film’s story as frames and, last but not least, the Tokuma Anime Picture Book that comes as a 172-page children’s novel utilizing movie frames for illustrations.
The Studio Ghibli Complete Annotated Storyboard Collection: The Boy and the Heron, The Art of and volume one of the The Boy and the Heron Film Comic titles are all set to release on November 1 while The Boy and the Heron Tokuma Anime Picture Book and volume two of the Film Comic release December 15 via Amazon. Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron hits US theaters December 8.
