KAWS Collaborates With Shreeji News

On a pop-up shop featuring his recent book, ‘New Fiction’, along with a curated selection of goods.

Coinciding with the return of Frieze London, KAWS has worked with Shreeji News on a pop-up event on Chiltern Street in Marylebone. The partnership has been some time in the works, as Gabriel Chipperfield (son of British architect David Chipperfield) transformed the magazine shop into a multi-use space back in 2020, offering the best in print, as well as snacks and a salon space for collaborative experiences.

“It’s always a bit of an experiment, but it is a case of having a good time as well,” noted Chipperfield, who is also now a partner of Shreeji News, alongside founder Sandeep Garg. “We’ll have artworks on display and ultimately for sale, but then we are a newsagent. So the idea is that we are also going to have KAWS coffee, T-shirts, tote bags and posters.”

The pop-up is centered around KAWS’ recent book, New Fiction, which chronicles his exhibition of the same name that the Brooklyn-based artist hosted last year with Serpentine Galleries. “We gave [KAWS] some ideas, saying that last year we did this, or this is what we normally do, but the overarching rule is that this is your shop this week,” Chipperfield added.

By downloading the Acute Art app, visitors can also view a floating COMPANION figure just in front of the store. The KAWS x Shreeji News pop-up will be open until Sunday, October 15.
