With the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade just around the corner, and prior news that KAWS would be participating with a Companion contribution, the artist recently sat down at his Brooklyn studio to talk about how the partnership first started. Noting that most balloons in the parade take on a “proud” and “dynamic” quality, KAWS instead opted for something more like his Passing Through work first seen at Harbour City in Hong Kong. The 40-foot-long balloon, made from urethane-coated nylon, joins the likes of Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Tom Otterness and Tim Burton as other notable living artists who have had their work in the parade.
