In this 36th issue of Shoes-Up, the Parisian magazine explores the cities of Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, Egypt, Senegal, Palestine, France and Italy in search of “street art.” Considering the subject of street art to have evolved beyond NYC subways into an enormous topic with all kinds of polemical controversy — pro/against, street/gallery or both, message/no message — the French team takes to the global streets looking for the artists themselves and their messages. From installations protesting individualism to huge, hyper-colored artworks, they’ve found that works in the street will never have the same impact on people and on the world as works of art in art galleries. For the artists, however, street art really translates into meeting people and sharing, reflecting and exchanging things — a whole other art when you’re out on the streets.
