American artist Andy Rementer will unveil a new pop-up exhibition at VINS Gallery in Taiwan later this week. Opening on Friday, June 28, the four-day show will include a series of new paintings and two limited edition sculptures entitled Beverly and Sunset.

Based in Philadelphia, Rementer is known for creating graphic compositions of largely pensive characters in domestic settings, that through the colors and simplified shapes, appear cheerful on first glance, but reveal darker undertones upon closer inspection. Having spent some time living and working in Northern Italy, Rementer is notably inspired by the canon of European art history, from the Italian Renaissance to Fernand Léger and Nathalie du Pasquier, which he mixes with his own Neo-Pop vernacular and upbringing around classic sign paintings — resulting in pleasing images that invite deeper introspection. “I’m always drawn to stories that convey something difficult to say,” Rementer has noted in the past.

Limited to an edition of 50 each, Beverly and Sunset are inspired by his paintings made in Los Angeles, as two female figures languidly perch against a cactus. For those looking to purchase, the sculptures will be available via raffle during his four-day pop-up ending on July 1, 2024. Winners will be announced by email on July 3.
