Frieze and Getty Announced Year-Long Partnership for New Arts and Science Event

The global initiative will see a number of commissions travel from Seoul to London to LA in anticipation of the inaugural PST ART.

Frieze has announced a new global partnership with Getty that will launch at the fair’s upcoming Seoul iteration in September. The year-long initiative will seek to amplify the Southern California institution’s new event, PST ART (formerly known as Pacific Standard Time), which will explore the intersection between art and science. Opening in September 2024, PST ART will showcase over 800 artists in 50 coordinated exhibitions and public programs that will open dialogues pertaining climate change, artificial intelligence, environmental justice, and alternative medicine.

For the inaugural edition, Getty has provided grants to over 45 organizations and will launch the initiative through a commission by Korean visual research collective ikkibawiKrrr, set to open at Frieze Seoul 2023. Following the fair, the collaboration will travel to London and be joined by new artwork by Los Angeles-based interdisciplinary artist Candice Lin, before culminating with the opening of PST ART in September 2024.

Taking place from September 6 to 9 at the COEX convention center in Seoul, ikkibawiKrrr will present a new video work and performance that will center on the female diving community on Jeju island. The works will investigate themes pertaining environmental sustainability, the notion of togetherness, and the mythic tales of the creatures that surround the Korean island. Shortly after at Frieze London, which will take place at Regent’s Park from October 11 to 15, Candice Lin will showcase new indigo-dyed kites, entitled Seeping, Rotting, Resting, Weeping (2021), which will continue her career-long exploration into scientific taxonomies.
