Sex Pistols Cover Artist Jamie Reid Has Died Aged 76

Jamie Reid, the artist, and graphic designer behind iconic Sex Pistols album covers, including the English group’s “God Save the Queen” promotional poster, has died aged 76.
Jamie Reid was an English visual artist known for embracing punk aesthetics in the 1970s and ’80s. His unique design language was evident across every creation, using torn and mismatched newspaper headlines in his work.
Reid’s family and gallerist John Marchant confirmed his death to the public on August 9, releasing a statement that described him as an “artist, iconoclast, anarchist, punk, hippie, rebel and romantic,” adding, “Jamie leaves behind his beloved daughter Rowan, his granddaughter Rose, and an enormous legacy.”
Best known for his work with British punk band Sex Pistols, Reid designed their 1977 Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols album cover in pink and yellow hues. Reid drew the defaced portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for the Sex Pistols’ “God Save the Queen” single and designed “Pretty Vacant”‘s smashed frame cover.
Jamie Reid was a punk trailblazer, defining the era through his dismantled designs that stand strong today.
