One-Day Exhibition Spotlights the Childhood Artwork of KAWS, Daniel Arsham and More

Entitled ‘My Kid Could Do That’, the show looks to promote childhood creativity across the arts.

It’s commonplace to think that artists are a special bunch bestowed with magical powers, that the rest of us are without. But if you look at the work of their childhood, you quickly realize that we’re all, in regards to technical ability, generally on the same playing field. We all at one point created the same lousy stick figure drawings, scribbled outside the lines and exaggerated forms that disregarded prescribed technique or artistic genres. “My kid could do that!”, you hear shouted from a crowd of disgruntled parents looking at a work by Ellsworth Kelly. And you know what? Maybe they can.

A new exhibition is coming to New York which spotlights the childhood artwork from contemporary figures, such as KAWS, Jen Stark, Daniel Arsham, LeRoy Neiman, KidSuper and many more. Aptly titled My Kid Could Do That, the one-day show looks to provide the youth a space to unleash their creativity, while raising funds for at-risk organizations that continue to support youth art programs around the U.S.

“Nothing speaks to our core message like this event’s childhood exhibit from the leading artistic icons of our era and the cultural, philanthropic and corporate leaders in the room sharing our vision and sentiment to invest for the long term in youth’s creativity,” said Adarsh Alphons, founder and executive director of ProjectArt, the nonprofit behind the exhibition.

My Kid Could Do That will go on view on Thursday, November 2 from 12 to 4pm ET, while the gala reception will follow from 6:30, including music by DJ Trevor McFedries.

Elsewhere, the Van Gogh Museum will stop issuing Pokémon Pikachu promo cards.
