Daniel Arsham to Stage Inaugural Solo Exhibition in His Hometown of Cleveland

Hosted at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Daniel Arsham is returning to his birthplace of Cleveland, Ohio, the place it all began. For his inaugural solo exhibition, Score and Sound, the contemporary artist is taking to The Sculpture Center to present his work. With already deep-rooted ties to the city with his prominent and first-ever role as the creative director for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Arsham returns home to draw upon Cleveland’s rich sporting and musical traditions.

The solo exhibit will feature 30 sculptures, including Arsham’s iconic eroded cultural relics, sculptural works and more. The collection invites art fans to reflect upon the material and cultural histories of everyday objects including Walkmans, cameras, baseball gloves and basketball hoops. Known for his boundary-breaking collaborations that see him fuse his art with design, sports, film, fashion and architecture, the exhibit aims to challenge our perception of time and reality. Through Arsham’s signature erosion and crystallization style, the concept centers around the artist’s archaeological fiction ideal.

In a statement about the exhibit Arsham states, “It is an honor to present the first solo exhibition of my work in my
hometown of Cleveland at The Sculpture Center. For this show I have reflected on the city’s cultural history and traditions, particularly those of sport and music, relevant to the city and which serve as consistent influences on my practice. I look forward to engaging with the Cleveland community through the various activations we have planned throughout the duration of the exhibition.” The exhibit was developed in partnership with Detroit-based gallery Library Street Collective. The exhibition is also partnering with the Cleveland Cavaliers — Chris Kaiser, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer for the Cleveland Cavaliers said, “The Cavaliers are also pleased to partner on this exhibition and celebrate Daniel Arsham’s contributions to Cleveland’s sports and artistic communities. As an organization that embraces the intersection of sport, art and music, we are particularly proud to support Daniel Arsham’s Score and Sound exhibition at The Sculpture Center.

The Score and Sound exhibit is free and open to the public and is slated to run from November 3, 2023 through to January 27, 2024 at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland, Ohio. For more information, check out the website.
