PLEASURES and Pabst Blue Ribbon Present Joe Horner "Oh Lord - Detroit"

The exhibition is now on at Xhibition Detroit.

Teaming up with longtime friends Pabst Blue Ribbon, PLEASURES is now presenting a solo exhibition by artist Joe Horner at Xhibition Detroit. The limited solo presentation from the artist titled “Oh Lord – Detroit” explores negative space and the absence.

Works on display show Joe Horner’s process of accidental composition showing objects and images, and refining them into their simplest form. The result is an array of raw energetic artworks that catalyze impressions concerning the history of artmaking, human activity, and memory.

Standouts include a feature of a 1984 Mercedes with missing wheels, placed on cinder blocks as a minimalist gesture. The work references “Mercedes Benz,” the last song recorded by Janis Joplin days before her death, highlighting how the acapella blues tune explores a bastardized spirituality combined with the anxious pursuit of happiness. Other works show abstracted action paintings that leave behind factual artifacts of unseen bicycles. The documentation offers an emotional observation of objects that remain absent while bearing testimony to material history.

Take a look at Joe Horner’s “Oh Lord – Detroit” presented by PLEASURES and Pabst Blue Ribbon on until October 28 at Xhibition Detroit.
