Kunsthalle Basel Presents 'LuYang Vibratory Field'

On view from January 20 to May 21, 2023.

Kunsthalle Basel will play host to a new solo exhibition by emerging Chinese artist LuYang. Born in Shanghai and now based in Tokyo, LuYang conflates various cultures, such as anime, Buddhism and video games, to create video installations, paintings and performance-based artwork that examines the human condition.

As her first solo show in Switzerland, LuYang Vibratory Field transforms each room into a portal into the artist’s mind. Emblematic of her career, each of the videos showcases LuYang as she designs herself into manga-inspired characters, spiritual beings and future-dystopian robots that are not just intriguing and grotesque, but reflect a deeper exploration into topics such as life, death and reincarnation. “I don’t like being called an artist – I’m more like an entertainer,” the artist once noted.

LuYang Vibratory Field will be on view at Kunsthalle Basel from January 20 until May 21, 2023. To learn more about the artist, please visit her website.

Elsewhere, WOAW Gallery will unveil a new space in Singapore.
