YOOX Spotlights Bold Artists & Designers in "MULTI FORM*" Exhibition for Milan Design Week

Exploring “fluidity in living spaces.”

Milan Design Week has officially commenced in the Italian city, bringing cutting-edge collections as well as art-inclined presentations from the biggest designers and artists in the world. One of the notable week-long programs taking place is a multidisciplinary exhibition entitled “MULTI FORM* – Fluidity in Living Spaces” spearheaded by the major online retail company, YOOX.

Situated in the courtyard and interior spaces of via Tortona 14, “MULTI FORM*” is a kaleidoscopic event in which five different design and art talents reinterpret the concept of “fluidity in living spaces” through their own respective practices. Participating artists include Andrew Ross, Gab Bois, Guendalina Cerruti, Miranda Makaroff and Steve Messam. Whether it’s a work of conceptual photography by Gab Bois or a figurative-meets-surrealist sculpture by Andrew Ross, the roster of artists are unique in their own mediums as they challenge the conventions of how design and art are defined in youth-centric home settings.

Highlighted works include objects by Gab Bois that utilize capitalist signs and symbols to poke fun at a consumer-obsessed mainstream culture, a large scale soft sculpture made of dyed cotton commissioned by YOOX called ‘Timeline,’ as well as a shape-shifting sculpture called ‘Butterfly-Dog’ that “reimagines the concept of fluid identity.” The organization adds: “Through assemblage and patchy textures, the piece depicts a dog enclosed in a butterfly’s body, playing with the idea of metamorphosis in the animal kingdom.”

Accompanying the “MULTI FORM*” exhibition is an additional installation called ‘Floating Room’ that allows visitors to interact with the work through its digital walls. “By creating their own ‘Drop’ artwork, everyone can be part of the exhibition, making them protagonists in the first person.” Not to mention the week-long program will include a 3D printing workshop entitled “Mould-a-form” made in collaboration with SuperForma that allows students to create their own three-dimensional objects, DJ sets by European Vampire and Toy Tonics, as well as separate live discussions with YOOX ambassador Kristen De la Vallière and HypeArt’s Keith Estiler with Gab Bois.

“MULTI FORM* – Fluidity in Living Spaces” is taking place from June 6 to June 11 from 10 am to 8 pm GMT, and June 12 from 10 am to 1 pm GMT. Head to YOOX’s website for more information on the program. In case you missed it, here’s HYPEBEAST’s guide to Milan Design Week to help you navigate the world’s biggest design festival.
