Sebastian König Has Illustrated the Universal Frustration Regarding Traffic Jams

A 64-page publication in conjunction with Portuguese publisher, Stolen Books.

Sebastian König is a Hamburg-based illustrator who is all too familiar with the disarray that can occur on the German Autobahn. Like many artists who use their frustrations as a source of inspiration, König channeled his experiences driving on the freeway and the impending traffic jams that drive us all crazy in a new illustrated book called, Jamming.

Made in conjunction with Portuguese publisher, Stolen Books, Jamming features König’s brilliant reduction of forms — taking common and complex matters and distilling them into editorial illustrations that have featured for clients such as The New Yorker and Die Zeit, to RIMOWA and Warby Parker.

“I really loved the absurd idea of being forced to deal with odd circumstances in the microcosm of the Autobahn,” König told It’s Nice That. Adding, “It is like a new world you are entering when you are on the road – if you get stuck, there is no way to escape and you and the other drivers have to accept new rules. Being in a traffic jam shows all the bright and dark sides of humans.”

The publication is more than just a critique on driving, but is also inspired by the fun childhood car rides he’d take in his dad’s BMW en route to France. Jamming is printed on smooth Coral Book Natural 120grs Lecta paper and is 64 pages in length. The publication is available to purchase for €34 EUR / 40 USD.
