Toy Tokyo Celebrates 20 Years of Designer Toys with Artist Watch Collection
With Quiccs, Ron English and Simone Legno of tokidoki.
Based in New York City’s East Village, Toy Tokyo and its founder Lev Lavarek are launching a new initiatives in honor of the store’s 20th anniversary. Toy Tokyo is dropping a new, limited-edition designer toy watch collection that features artwork from iconic artists like Quiccs, Ron English and Simone Legno of tokidoki. Available for purchase during New York Comicon, this designer toy watch collection also marks Toy Tokyo’s new artist platform.
The designer toy watch collection highlights the signature styles of Quiccs, Ron English and Simone Legno of tokidoki through wearable timepieces. English’s artist timepiece features a watch face with M.C. Supersize, the artist’s humorous interpretation of American consumerist culture and Ronald McDonald. Inspired by a passion for Japanese robot culture, hip-hop and graffiti, Quicc’s Toy Tokyo artist watch shows off a futuristic Bulletpunk Universe character TEQ63. Simone Legno, the Italian-born artist behind tokidoki, has transformed his Salary Man Tiger into watch that pays homage to the everyday man and family.
Although watches are a relatively new form for the designer toy world, the artists featured in this collection have had an ongoing relationship with the seminal Toy Tokyo store. The company and Lavarek have supported artists like KAWS and Ron English long before the world knew who these artists were, and have helped launched content with toy brands like Funko. Lavarek, who started Toy Tokyo in 2000, helped launch the designer toy movement has earned a reputation that “whatever Lev touches, sells.”
The three watches in the 20th anniversary Toy Tokyo collection will be available for purchase at New York Comicon on the 7th floor at booth 1156 or through the brand’s website. Each watch in this collection will retail for $150 USD.
