The Annual Wide Open Walls Art Festival Kicks Off in Sacramento

Local and international artists will paint murals across the city.

Sacramento’s annual Wide Open Walls festival is back for the 2019 edition, setting up shop in the city from August 8-18. The event will allow several local, national and international artists to create murals and paintings throughout the city, as well as feature panels, parties, and other art-centric events.

The line-up includes names such as the San Francisco-based Mars-1, who is known for his fantasy-like creations, the Miami-based multimedia artist Axel Void and nomadic painter and tattoo artist Beth Emmerich. Programming is set to include a press conference, various block parties and more.

Several of the activities are free but ticketed events can be purchased by visiting the Wide Open Walls website.

Last year at the festival, Shepard Fairey debuted a monumental Johnny Cash mural to pay homage to the Man in Black’s At Folsom Prison album.
