Artist Takahiro Komuro Unveils Trippy Wooden Sculptures in Tokyo
As part of an exhibition titled “Vortex.”

Tokyo-based sculptor Takahiro Komuro just launched a new exhibition at Ginza Tsutsaya Books Atrium in Japan. Titled “Vortex,” the presentation spotlights life-sized wooden sculptures of surrealist and psychedelic subjects including dragons, two-headed female subjects, and alien-like creatures painted in vivid colors. With this show, the artist aims to subvert religious iconography while introducing figures that may be relics for worship in parallel dimensions.
“In ‘Vortex,’ creatures with an unusual scale from another world are appearing in front of us by using the media of sculpture. Energies of sculptures transcending the time and space are pulling us into the spectacle of different worlds,” said the artist in a statement.
