Yasumasa Yonehara's NSFW Exhibition Censors Nude Photographs With Paint

”i am growing out my bangs because i don’t want to see him” is the provocative artist’s latest showing.

Notable Japanese photographer Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara returns to Taiwan for a new exhibition. “I am growing out my bangs because I do not want to see him” obscures Yone’s typically NSFW photos with smeared paint.

Known for his photography of Japanese women, Yone’s latest showcase displays a series of salacious photographs, focusing on women in various states of undress. The catch is that each photo has been worked over with colorful paint, coating the erotic portions of each image. Some photographs are entirely blanketed with paint — with slogans like “NEW LOVE” and “I DON’T LIKE U” lettered inside word bubbles — while others feature bikinis, underwear and wigs painted over women’s bodies. A selection of magazines features prints from the exhibit, as do an array of Milkfed-produced T-shirts.

“I am growing out my bangs because I do not want to see him” runs until December 10 at Taipei’s G-Gallery. In other art news, Cali Thornhill DeWitt’s “Safe Words” has opened in LA.
