18,000 Paper Silhouettes Make up Emmanuelle Moureaux's 'I am here'
The Tokyo-based French architect and artist takes to METoA Ginza.

Back in July, METoA Ginza opened its massive “Space In Ginza” display — an exhibition that artfully looks at the vastness of the universe and Earth’s place within it. The highlight of the exhibition? emmanuelle moureaux architecture + design‘s I am here.
Utilizing “centimeter-level measurement accuracy of the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System,” I am here ambitiously gives a beautiful face to the high-precision technology and depicts 18,000 female silhouettes in 100 different colors. The layered column is ultimately an expression of the always crowded Tokyo streets and even features two girls and a cat buried within it, thus encouraging visitors to try to find them within the sculpture.
The prismatic assemblage — “a reminder to rethink where you belong” — is on display through September 22.
