A Closer Look at MADSAKI's "HICKORY DICKORY DOCK" Exhibition in Tokyo

Featuring Scarface and Vladimir Putin.

On August 27, Japan-based MADSAKI opened the doors to his “HICKORY DICKORY DOCK” exhibition, which is being held at Takashi Murakami’s Hidari Zingaro Gallery in Tokyo. The exhibition showcases MADSAKI‘s lo-fi deconstructionist parodies of highbrow art culture and society, as well as his parodies of Murakami himself. Creating crude imitations of the Japanese Warhol’s iconic flower paintings, MADSAKI has added his signature smiley faces with their dripping eyes and mouths as a nod to Murakami. He also applies his playful smiley faces to portraits of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The show runs until September 13.
