See the Evolution of Stop-Motion Animation Throughout the Years

A three-minute clip starting from the silent film era to present day.

Inspired by the release of Kubo and the Two Strings, filmmaker Vugar Efendi decided reach back into the archives of stop-motion animation to document the evolution of this unique cinematic technique. Starting off the clip is silent film The Enchanted Drawing, which released back in 1900 by director J. Stuart Blackton, widely considered to be the father of animation. Next, the video shows the progression of the art form applied onto to classic films such as Jason and the Argonauts and Star Wars IV: A New Hope, to more recent favorites like Wallace and Gromit’s The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Fantastic Mr. Fox.
