Philippe Malouin Turns Miami's Design District Into Live Art for "The Speed of Light"

Commissioned by DesignMiami.

Canadian artist and designer Philippe Malouin is using the Miami Design District to host a new art installation. Aiming to craft artwork that’s accessible to all audiences in every significant way, the London-based creative presents the DesignMiami-commissioned “The Speed of Light,” a sculptural installation that is based off the journey of a “spherical glowing bulb” traveling along a “twisting rail.” Explaining his latest piece to Designboom, Malouin gave the outlet an explanation when asked about his new work:

The most important thing is not to focus necessarily on the installation; it’s really about the light that is projected during nighttime in the shape of a dot on the floor. When the buggy travels across the installation, that dot either gets bigger or smaller as it travels closer or farther away from the ground. Wo this project is really about light itself.
