Chinese artist Lu Xinjian has turned to Google Earth for his latest set of contemporary pieces, completed in 2011. Dubbed “City DNA,” the artist used aerial views of some of the world’s largest cities in order to create stencils from Adobe Illustrator and a cutting plotter to be used for the paintings. The result is a series of abstract pieces representing the very fabric of the cities, each utilizing a color palette influenced by that particular city’s national flag. Featuring the likes of Munich, Las Vegas, Shanghai, Kyoto and Beijing, “City DNA” can be seen in its entirety via the artist’s website.
