Sebastian Curi Unveils New Print for the 2024 Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival

Limited to an edition of 75.

The Hollywood Bowl worked with rising Argentinian artist Sebastian Curi to create a new poster to promote the venue’s upcoming jazz festival. Taking place from June 15 to 16, the 2024 Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival will unite prominent and emerging musicians within the genre, including R&B singer Andra Day and Kamasi Washington to celebrated Ethiopian multi-instrumentalist Mulatu Astatke.

Established in 1922, the Hollywood Bowl is one of the oldest and most revered venues in the US. Unlike other notable jazz festivals in North America, such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Bowl doesn’t have a history of working with artists and illustrators to commemorate its events. Originally from Buenos Aires, Curi immediately gravitated towards the immense scale of the building and how it creates a profound grandeur that emphasizes a communal experience for the crowd.

“To capture this essence visually, I envisioned a hand that plays the amphitheater,” Curi told Hypeart. “In my mind, the distinctive shell-shaped structure of the amphitheater is as integral to the performance as any instrument on the stage, if not more so. The hand that plays the music and the famous Hollywood Bowl are then the same. This drawing creates a playful interplay between the waves of sound, hands strumming a piano shaped rainbow, and the iconic bowl silhouette,” Curi added.

Limited to an edition of 75, UP IN THE AIR (2024) is a three-color screen print that sizes at 18 x 24 inches and is hand-pulled on Fedrigoni Natural 300 gsm paper. Curi and the Bowl will also gift one lucky fan a free ticket and poster by following the venue and artist via Instagram and tagging the friend they’d like to bring. Submissions must be sent by June 13, 2024 at 10am PT, with the winner being announced later that day.
