'Genius Loci''s Artful Takeover of Maison Bernard

Over 20 modern and contemporary artists across the iconic residence.

The Genius Loci Maison Bernard exhibition is taking over Maison Bernard in Théoule-sur-Mer from June 8 to 23. This iconic residence, designed by Hungarian architect Antti Lovag in the 1970s, will feature artworks by over 20 modern and contemporary artists and designers. The exhibition includes special commissions and installations that interact with the home’s unique spherical spaces and succulent garden.

Highlights include works by Marcin Rusak, Safia Hijos, and Xavier Veilhan. An eco-friendly installation by Samuel Nguyen and students from Villa Arson in Nice will also be featured. Additionally, dancer and choreographer Némo Flouret presents “DANCE PARC: a Playground Project,” a performance designed to engage with Lovag’s architectural vision. Organized in partnership with the Maison Bernard Endowment Fund and curated by Marion Vignal, the exhibition celebrates Lovag’s design, emphasizing its harmony with nature and creative freedom.

Maison Bernard, a collaboration between Antti Lovag and industrialist Pierre Bernard, was built in the 1970s as noted by designboom. Located in the Estérel Massif with views of the Mediterranean, the house is known for its lack of right angles and flowing, ovoid shapes, reflecting Lovag’s belief in spherical forms as ideal for human habitation.
