August Vilella Navigates 'Echoes of Silence' in Debut NYC Show

Exploring the depths of unspoken emotions.

Exhibitions

VILLAZAN Gallery just launched the debut solo exhibition of artist August Vilella in New York. Titled Echoes of Silence, the exhibition showcases Vilella’s latest works that delve into the profound impact of tranquility on the human psyche. Through his oil paintings, Vilella explores the depths of unspoken emotions and hidden meanings found in moments of stillness and contemplation.

Born in Spain in 1986, Vilella is a self-taught painter renowned for his unique approach to art. Employing Surrealist automatism, he creates his paintings without preconceived sketches or ideas, allowing his subconscious to guide each brushstroke. This technique results in dreamlike compositions that invite viewers into a world of metaphor and philosophy.

Central to Vilella’s work are the strikingly expressive eyes of his characters, which serve as a conduit for emotional connection. While he may not fully understand the origins of this feature, Vilella believes that his subjects communicate with the world through their gaze. Echoes of Silence in on view at VILLAZAN NYC through May 17.
