Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 has kicked off in full force. The international art fair has landed in Hong Kong, bringing a global group of art aficionados to the vibrant Asian city.

Hypebeast was on the ground to observe the 242 galleries from 40 countries at Art Basel including booths like David Zwirner, Victoria Miro, Hauser & Wirth, Gagosian, Perrotin and Pace Gallery. Local galleries like 10 Chancery Lane Gallery showed pieces from Laurent Martin “Lo” and Katrina Leigh Mendoza Raimann other international galleries like Tomio Koyama Gallery shared pieces from Aiko Yuno.

Mainstays like Yayoi Kusama‘s spotted pumpkin and acrylic paintings on canvas like the “Infinity Nets (2015) were iconic must-sees at Basel. Perhaps one of the most interesting works from the Japanese designer was seen at Victoria Miro. Her mirror polished, stainless steel with glass mirror work titled, “Where the Lights in My Heart Go (2016)” was a much-talked about experience. Guests essentially entered a metal box for a timed 30 seconds to experience an enclosed immersive environment of mirrors and lights to create an expansive, infinite space. Other artists on display at Basel include works from Simon Fujiwara which feature his signature mouse character spray painted on canvas, Javier Calleja‘s paintings and wide-eyed and cartoon-like sculptures, Kenny Scharf‘s hypnotic work as well as a life-sized Hajime Sorayama sexy robot. Other galleries exhibiting at Basel include the Matthew Marks Gallery, Almine Riche, PTT Space, Gallery 1957 and more.

For those in Hong Kong, Art Basel will run until the end of this week. Those who were unable to make the yearly event can catch some of the art on display in the image gallery above.
