Hong Kong’s art scene is about to get a jolt of excitement this March with the launch of Supper Club, a unique art event set to debut in the city. Organized in partnership with the Fringe Club, Supper Club will feature a diverse array of over 20 international and regional galleries, showcasing cutting-edge artwork from around the globe.

Initiated by three influential figures in Hong Kong’s art world—Willem Molesworth, Ysabelle Cheung, and Alex Chan—Supper Club aims to shake up traditional art fair norms. The event will unfold within the historic Fringe Club, a venue steeped in cultural significance as a former cold storage warehouse turned experimental arts hub. In a statement regarding the event, Ysabelle Cheung, co-founder of PHD Group, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to support emerging artists, stating, “We hope to provide room for fermentation of ideas, alternative modes of patronage, and supporting living artists, and an invitation to experiment.”

Supper Club promises an immersive experience, with extended opening hours until 1 am, allowing visitors ample time to explore the transformed exhibition spaces. Alex Chan, founder of THE SHOPHOUSE, emphasized the event’s aim to provide a fresh perspective on art engagement, stating, “We will be creating a unique experience hitherto unprecedented in Hong Kong, and through our strategic partnerships, we hope to bring to the public a new mode of interacting with art.”

With a lineup of participating galleries from major art capitals such as Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, and New York, Supper Club is poised to become a highlight of Hong Kong’s cultural calendar. As Willem Molesworth, co-founder of PHD Group, pointed out, “Missing from the equation, however, has been a showcase of the region’s up and coming artists that embraces the generative, interconnected dialogues shaping the larger creative ecosystem. Supper Club is here to fill that void.”

The Supper Club will run from March 25-30, head to their website for more information. In other exciting art news, check out the Serralves Museum’s new Alvaro Siza wing that offers a disruptive, art viewing experience.
