LUPO Is a New Milanese Gallery That Should Be on Your Radar

The gallery is currently showcasing a new thought-provoking exhibition by Italian artist Giuseppe Mulas.

LUPO (Lorenzelli Projects) is a new gallery founded by a team of under-30s in Milan, showcasing a range of artists who hail from the 1990s.

The burgeoning gallery is currently presenting Giuseppe Mulas’ solo exhibition LA BESTIA SONO IO, which captures the transformative experience he had in the Colombian Amazon rainforest, where he connected deeply with indigenous communities. The show reflects on humanity beyond societal constraints and our fundamental connections with nature.

Also on view at Artissima in Turin, one of Italy’s premier contemporary art fairs, LUPO will showcase Mulas’ “S’areste” (Sardinian for ‘wild, untamed’), a thought-provoking project made in collaboration with psychiatric patients from the Anteo Social Cooperative in Turin. Each gestural artwork appears like abstracted color fields from a distance, revealing fluid shapes and forms, from Martini bottles to animals — paying homage to the 1973 sculpture, Marco Cavallo, which was created by patients and artists — leading to the Italian movement for psychiatric reform.

Previously, Mulas’ biggest show to date, Sleep Well Childhood, held at Galleria Alberto Peola in Turin, probed into themes of identity, memory and nostalgia, by blending metaphorical depictions of innocence, juxtaposed by the iconography reflecting the subconscious’s hidden desires.

“S’areste” will be on view at Artissima in Turin from November 1 to 3, while LA BESTIA SONO IO is on view at LUPO’s flagship gallery in Milan until November 19, 2024.
