Every Object Is a Story According to Artist Corey Pemberton

Catch his latest exhibition ‘People, Place, Thing’ at UNREPD gallery in Los Angeles.

Corey Pemberton is a mixed-media artist and glassblower who creates diaristic snapshots of his everyday experience. Born in Virginia and now based in Los Angeles, Pemberton has unveiled a new solo exhibition at UNREPD gallery entitled Person, Place, Thing.

Emblematic of the title, the emerging artist invites the viewer to get a glimpse into his life and the values he ascribes to by observing the subtle objects he paints within his work. Whether an old ticket stub that you held onto or a tray you bought on holiday — there is a story to each object that we bring into our lives. “When Pemberton puts a can of hair sheen on a pedestal, literally, he insists that we open our minds figuratively to the significance of that object within the culture in which it was created and is applied,” wrote a release by the gallery.

By understanding both the personal and social histories embedded in the things we surround ourselves with, the artist believes we can reshape the systems that distribute stamps of cultural significance.

The exhibition opened earlier this month and will be on view at UNREPD in LA until July 15.

Elsewhere, there is a new documentary that chronicles the artists who chose to stay in Ukraine amidst war.
