P·P·O·W is excited to present a collection of new artworks by Elizabeth Glaessner, Hilary Harkness, Sanam Khatibi, Judith Linhares, Gerald Lovell, Erin M. Riley, and Robin F. Williams, alongside notable historical works by Jimmy DeSana, Carolee Schneemann, and Martin Wong.
Among the highlights is Carolee Schneemann’s ‘War Mop’ (1983), an impactful piece that reflects the artist’s multidisciplinary practice spanning six decades. Schneemann, originally an Abstract Expressionist painter, shifted towards performance-based work, exploring visual traditions, taboos, and the individual’s body in relation to societal structures. ‘War Mop’ specifically addresses the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the attack on the Palestinian Liberation Organization, encapsulating Schneemann’s engagement with power dynamics.
