The prestigious Messe Basel exhibition center, designed by renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, will serve as the venue for this grand event. Art Basel’s extensive program revolves around its main Galleries sector, where visitors can explore a plethora of contemporary art exhibitions. In addition to the main sector, the fair will feature captivating presentations in its special sectors: Unlimited, Parcours, Feature, and Kabinett. Peres Projects will showcase a diverse range of recent artworks by various artists at Art Basel 2023. P•P•O•W Gallery, Booth A5

P·P·O·W is excited to present a collection of new artworks by Elizabeth Glaessner, Hilary Harkness, Sanam Khatibi, Judith Linhares, Gerald Lovell, Erin M. Riley, and Robin F. Williams, alongside notable historical works by Jimmy DeSana, Carolee Schneemann, and Martin Wong.

Among the highlights is Carolee Schneemann’s ‘War Mop’ (1983), an impactful piece that reflects the artist’s multidisciplinary practice spanning six decades. Schneemann, originally an Abstract Expressionist painter, shifted towards performance-based work, exploring visual traditions, taboos, and the individual’s body in relation to societal structures. ‘War Mop’ specifically addresses the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the attack on the Palestinian Liberation Organization, encapsulating Schneemann’s engagement with power dynamics.

Jack Shainman, Booth P15

Jack Shainman Gallery is proud to showcase a captivating presentation at Basel featuring an extraordinary lineup of artists including Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, and many more. This carefully curated collection presents a diverse range of artistic voices and perspectives that explore themes of identity, social justice, and cultural narratives. David Kordansky, Booth R2

David Kordansky Gallery presents a diverse exhibition featuring renowned artists such as David Altmejd, Mario Ayala, Markus Amm, Huma Bhabha, Rashid Johnson, and many more. Empty Gallery debuts at Art Basel’s Galleries sector with a dynamic exhibition featuring Yutaka Matsuzawa, Tishan Hsu, James T. Hong, Taro Masushio, Henry Shum, and Cici Wu. The curated showcase explores the intersection of art, technology, identity, and culture, inviting visitors to contemplate space, the human body, social narratives, nature, cultural identity, and societal norms. This debut highlights Empty Gallery’s commitment to pushing boundaries and fostering meaningful conversations in contemporary art.

Jeffrey Deitch, Booth L25

Jeffrey Deitch presents “The Abstract Figure” at Art Basel, featuring the works of 29 contemporary artists who explore cultural identities, values, and desires through the representation of the human figure. This thematic art fair installation showcases figuration that both subverts and builds on artistic traditions, blurring the line between realism and the fantastical. The paintings, sculptures, and drawings on display represent self-portraits, alter-egos, lovers, muses, and strangers. The unique booth includes renowned artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Judy Chicago, Andy Warhol, Swoon, and many others, offering a diverse and captivating exploration of the human form and its cultural significance.

Antenna Space, Booth N9

Shanghai-based Antenna Space presents Stanislava Kovalcikova’s solo exhibition “Carnal Control: A Proposal for a Waiting Room” at Art Basel. The exhibition features a selection of 10 to 11 works, including oil paintings and paper works from 2023 and earlier years. Kovalcikova explores the concept of Carnal Control, prompting viewers to reflect on power dynamics and human agency.
