Steven Harrington Announces First Solo Museum Exhibition

Going on view at Seoul’s Amorepacific Museum of Art in March 2024.

Los Angeles-based artist Steven Harrington will unveil his first museum solo exhibition at Seoul’s Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) in March 2024. The museum was originally established in 1979 as a space to exhibit the collection of its founder, Seo Seong-hwan, but was later expanded to include works from antiquity, as well as Korean artists and contemporary figures, such as the ongoing show on the late American conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner.

Known globally for his psychedelic pop aesthetic, Harrington’s sensibilities have certainly evolved over the past 15 years, including more introspective paintings that comment on pertinent issues, such as the climate crisis, as well as the creation of his canine alter ego Mello. But the optimism that underpins his work — namely in the vibrant color-fields and the jovial characters of his universe — continues to persist through the many sculptures, murals, paintings and drawings he’s released since his early days studying at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

In a statement announcing the show, Harrington sent a big “Thank You” to “everyone that has supported my work throughout my lifetime thus far. This show is dedicated to anyone with a dream.” The eponymously titled exhibition will open on March 7 and run through July 14, 2024.
