Art Basel Reveals the Galleries That Will Exhibit at the Inaugural Paris+

Some in the Parisian community see the list as a setback to local talent.

Art Basel has announced the exhibitor list for its inaugural Paris fair this October. Unlike its other events in Hong Kong, Switzerland and Miami, the French edition will be known as Paris+ and will feature 156 galleries hailing from 30 countries across the globe.

Long held as the grounds for Paris’ FIAC, the Grand Palais Éphémère will now house Paris+, which some in the community see as a setback for local galleries. “Turnover is more visible on foreign galleries [while] the selection of young galleries is really small,” said Marion Papillon, president of France’s Professional Committee of Art Galleries, in a statement.

Paris+ director Clément Delépine believes the contrary — that the 61 local galleries chosen reflects Art Basel’s “commitment to create a show that is both specific to its host city and has a strong global resonance.”

In addition to the events at the Grand Palais Éphémère, Paris+ will also feature a number of public art commissions at various cultural destinations across the city, including Jardin des Tuileries, Place Vendôme, Musée national Eugène-Delacroix, and Chapelle des Petits-Augustins des Beaux-Arts de Paris — along with the fair’s usual Conversations program, this time hosted on a docked boat just near the Eiffel Tower.

Paris+ will take place from October 20-23. See the full exhibitor list below.
