David LaChapelle to Discuss Career and Inspirations in Upcoming PAMM Virtual Talk

Hosted by the museum’s director, Franklin Sirmans.

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) director, Franklin Sirmans, will host a virtual art talk with world-renowned photographer, David LaChapelle. The Connecticut-born artist is best known for his high gloss and elaborately arranged photographs that portray surrealist landscapes, biblical motifs, and half naked celebrities including Kanye West. LaChapelle counts his first big break when Andy Warhol discovered him at the infamous nightclub, Studio 54. Warhol then hired him to be contributing photographer for Interview Magazine.

“Through his mastery of color, unique composition, and imaginative narratives, LaChapelle began to expand the genre of photography. His staged tableau, portrait, and still life works challenged devices of traditional photography and his work quickly gained international interest,” as per a statement from the museum.

The live discussion will feature a number of talking points including where LaChapelle finds inspiration especially during these challenging times. The talk will be held on PAMM’s Facebook Live and YouTube Live accounts on July 8. A public conversation will follow. Visit PAMM’s official website to learn more.
