Skarstedt's New East Hampton Gallery Displays Works by KAWS, Barbara Kruger and More

Blue-chip works fill up the 1,500 square foot space.

Skarstedt recently opened the doors to its new East Hampton gallery in New York. To commemorate its opening on June 17, the internationally-acclaimed art dealer launched a group exhibition featuring works by its roster of blue-chip artists including KAWS, George Condo, Barbara Kruger, among many others. The white-walled space spans 1,500 square feet.

Highlighted works include a large-scale tondo painting by KAWS from 2018, a classic type and image piece by Kruger, as well as an abstract, oil on canvas work by Willem de Kooning from 1986. The group presentation also includes a new painting by seminal American artist, David Salle. Titled Under the Earth, the work seemingly pays homage to the biblical story of Adam and Eve as it features a male and female subject in contrasting postures and ensembles. An image of a tree is positioned between the figures acting as a barrier that heightens the pair’s juxtaposing portrayals, but also introduces a sense of harmony with its warm neoexpressionist form that dominates the entire composition.

The show is currently open to the public with a 10 person limit in the space. All guests are also required to wear face masks. Check out Skarstedt‘s new East Hampton gallery in the slideshow above.
