Kanye West’s High School Artwork Spotlighted in 'Antiques Roadshow'

Diverse pieces valued between $16,000 USD and $23,000 USD.

While Kanye West is renowned for his music and fashion talents, his creative prowess also includes fine art. West’s rarely-seen portfolio of artwork, from when he was only 17 years old, appeared on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow this past Monday. The collection was brought into the show by the husband of West’s first cousin.

In the episode, art specialist Laura Wolley spotlighted four unique pieces to showcase West’s proficiency over different mediums. Her selection included graphite, gouache and scratchboard works of art that were made by West when he was a sophomore at Polaris Charter Academy in Chicago. Wolley then made an appraisal of collection, relaying that it can fetch anywhere between $16,000 USD and $23,000 USD.

Apart from music, West had a penchant for fine art at a young age. He studied at a number of prestigious institutions including Hyde Park Academy, the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago State University as well as Nanjing University in China. Not to mention, the rapper was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago back on May 2015, as reported by BBC.
