Jeff Koons Lays Off Workers Before Moving Offices to Hudson Yards

The fourth round of layoffs since 2015.

Jeff Koons has laid off staffers ahead of moving his studio space from Chelsea to Hudson Yards, as per ARTnews. This marks the fourth round of layoffs by the internationally-acclaimed artist since 2015. At the time, he hired a team of 100 painters to create similar works of Old Masters for his Gazing Ball series that were displayed at David Zwirner and Gagosian. In the next years to come, the studio began to downsize due to “lackluster” sales of the artworks, reported Artsy. On the other hand, Art F City claimed that the employees relieved of their duties (mid-2016) were attempting to unionize.

Koons’ new studio will be located at the eighth and tenth floors of 475 Tenth Avenue in Hudson Yards. The number of employees that were let go recently is still unclear. Stay tuned for more details.
