Examining Iconic Street Photographer Daido Moriyama's Color Works
Fascinating insight on his often-overlooked works.
NOWNESS has tapped renowned street photographer Daido Moriyama to be the first subject of its Photographers in Focus series, which will examine the works of various individuals in the lead up to the Kyotographie International Photography Festival and The Photography Show. The Osaka native has amassed somewhat of a cult-like following for his “uncompromising, high-contrast” monochrome shots of Tokyo’s vibrant streets, overshadowing much of his color works that were taken between the late 1960s and the early 1980s. Italian director Andrea Cossu delves into the saturated snaps for this short documentary, in which Moriyama himself talks about the different approaches he takes towards color and black-and-white photographs, in addition to the unique characteristics that make Tokyo such as fascinating environment for his work.
