Watch This Rare Banksy Interview From 1995
“When you’re the only person out in the city you feel like you can get away with murder.”
Banksy fans will be thrilled to unearth this VHS clip from a BBC Channel 4 show called “Shadow People” from 1995. In this piece of rare footage, we get a glimpse of the British artist before he caught the flooding attention of the international art world in 1997 with his large wall mural The Mild Mild West. The video follows a young Banksy around the city, showing the elusive artist in action on the streets, going through his tool kits, and inside his studio. He talks about his rejection of art galleries, the value of one’s work, painting at night and “f*cking them in the a**” as he rolls a cigarette with his spray-paint stained fingers. This is probably one of the rare instances you hear the mysterious graffiti figure’s real voice.
