Davey Gravy is what you could call “multifaceted.” This Canadian artist says he has had “the desire to create and compose” since his youth, and over the past few years has found a number of ways to express that desire: Whether it’s a large-scale mural, a hand-built backlit LED sign, a collage or a hip-hop-themed cross stitch, Davey’s work might be wide-ranging but across all mediums evokes a sense of meticulous care. His diverse portfolio also suggests a penchant for exploration and joy in seeing even the most familiar through a new lens: it’s no surprise that after obtaining a BFA with a major in Drawing from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2011, he found his “home” in taking photos. It also helps to have the picturesque Rocky Mountains in his backyard, meaning that he has ready access to a constant source of inspiration in some of the most stunning scenery the planet has to offer. He also created the Instagram hashtag #PictureARhyme, which is a perfect blend of his passion for the Great Outdoors with his love for rap music. And perhaps most importantly, while Davey Gravy might be a serious artist, he is sure to always keep things light-hearted and fun.
