From Elon Musk’s burgeoning SpaceX program to more cult nods like Madbury Club’s running motifs, pop culture has something of an obsession with Mars. The conversation continues to intensify as the second wave of the space race wages on, with tomorrow’s promise of uncharted territories permeating the thoughts of today’s creative class. Wittily denoting this pivotal time in human history, visual artist Julien Mauve has created a new series of photographs that imagines our first steps on the red planet. Specifically, “Greetings From Mars” is concerned with human’s reactions to cameras in a new context, playing up our desires to capture and be captured through intentionally ‘touristy’ poses. Each location was carefully chosen for their likeness to (what we know of) Mars locales. Check out the photo set above and head to Mauve’s portfolio site to view more of his work.
