'PomPom Mirror' by Daniel Rozin

Despite the use of interactive technology within such installations being present for many years

Despite the use of interactive technology within such installations being present for many years now, it is only very recently that such projects have gained more footing and become recognized as serious art. Through exploring such capabilities, artists are now effectively involving their audience on a more digitally interactive level and turning them into a feature within the adjustable exhibition. As part of his new exhibition titled “Descent With Modification” at the bitforms gallery, New York-based artist Daniel Rozin has installed a motion-sensitive PomPom Mirror. The piece has been constructed from 928 spherical faux fur puffs that alternate color according to the object in front of it and create ghostly silhouettes that slowly fade in and out of being as each ball is controlled by a miniaturized motor. The exhibition is said to be an extension of Rozin’s interest in mimicking the effects of a mirror in the surfaces of non-reflective objects and serves as one of his most interesting pieces of work to date. For more information on the rest of Daniel Rozin’s show, head directly to his current space on the bitforms gallery website.
