Art purveyors might remember that a year and a half ago, one Wlodzimierz Umaniec was jailed for vandalizing a Mark Rothko painting – Black on Maroon, to be specific – in Tate Modern‘s permanent collection. Some 18 months after the act, Tate is set to re-unveil the damaged painting to the public. Mark Rothko originally gifted the painting to Tate in 1969, and are viewed as some of the museum’s most priceless, sentimentally regarded works. The above video chronicles the meticulous removal process, which involved a rigorous process of testing and hand-layering before actual application.
