Nearly 20 years after the release of his acclaimed American drama Kids, Larry Clark brings to the silver screen his first ever foreign film about a certain counterculture led by a group of young, self-destructing Parisian skaters. Titled The Smell of Us, the motion picture follows a pack of hard-partying skateboarders who hang out at the Dôme, just behind the Musée d’Art Moderne – a place that reminds Clark of New York’s Washington Square Park during the early ’90s. Although the specifics on this film are sparse, Dazed Digital spoke with its writer S.C.R.I.B.E. and actors Lukas Ionesco, Théo Cholbi, Angie Sherbourne, and Serena Thelma Perret for an insightful piece that includes tales about their newfound successes and working with the great Larry Clark.
