Mo’ Wax was started in 1992 as the brainchild of a then-18-year-old James Lavelle. The music label went on to become one of the most respected and prolific record labels of its time, playing home to artists DJ Shadow, UNKLE and Money Mark, as well as lesser-known spinners such as Luke Vibert and Dr. Octagon. Mo’ Wax was famous for its pioneering fusion of rap, techno, house and funk music aesthetics, bringing ‘trip-hop’ from the depths of subculture to an internationally-renowned sound. Presently, the label seeks to celebrate their 21st anniversary with an exhibition – “Urban Archeology” – which will showcase the artwork, proofs, vinyl, clothing and other memorabilia of Mo’ Wax’s gilded age. The label is seeking crowdfunding via a Kickstarter campaign, which will give fans of the label the opportunity to put this once-in-a-lifetime show together. Pledges can be as small as £1 GBP, or up to £5,000 GBP – which gets users a private spin session by Lavelle himself. To get more information on “Urban Archaeology,” head over to the brand’s Kickstarter page.
