Damien Hirst's 'Verity' Statue Proposal in England
Never one to shy away from large-scale works with grandiose displays, Damien Hirst has unveiled

Never one to shy away from large-scale works with grandiose displays, Damien Hirst has unveiled plans for where he’d like his towering bronze Verity statue to be displayed. Looking to make the piece the “Angel of the West,” the proposal calls for the 66-foot sculpture to find a home in Ilfracombe along the southwest coast of England. Depicting a pregnant women standing atop a plinth of books holding a glass-fiber sword above her head, the immense work would point seaward – surely greeting those who came in peace and warning those with more nefarious intentions. Ilfracombe officials are expected to make a decision about the sculpture in September – with the intentions that the installation would be completed by the end of the year.
