Faile, the Brooklyn-based street art collective formed by Patrick Miller and Patrick McNiel, have taken inspiration from many subjects throughout their 12 years working together. Focusing on everything from the female nude to prints and puzzles, the duo recently tackled one of the most iconic images of their childhood: the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Ride5 Films caught up with the New Yorkers to discuss the meaning and motivation behind the piece. In the interview, Miller and McNiel recall the disaster from their own perspective while touching on the ability of imagery to trigger memories and set the viewer back to a specific time, and the need to sacrifice some historical accuracies for the sake of impact.
